The 3/8" drive has a maximum of 80 ft-lbs. As I recally, some suspension parts need more torque than that. (On the other hand, the 1/2" also has a minimum of 25 ft-lbs and the 3/8" goes down to 0.5 ft-lbs. Some things, like the oil plug, need less than 25 ft-lbs. I do the oil plug by estimation...) If you plan to do much of your own work on your car, you will end up with mostly 1/2" drive sockets anyway, so you might as well get started collecting them. Sears is a very expensive place to buy sockets though. Because I have air tools, I only buy the air tool rated sockets, the black ones. If I could do it over again, I wouldn't have bought the chrome sockets at all, I would have started with the black ones. Ace hardware sells them for 1/3 the price of Sears in some cases, and they have a lifetime guarantee if I recall correctly. That's probably a lot more info than you wanted...sorry.
